The Body Mass Index (BMI)

measures the weight status of your body in relation to the fat. It is a simple tool that helps to figure out the amount of excess body fat and the associated risks of carrying this extra weight. It can be applied to both men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 years.
Raised BMI is a major risk factor for non communicable diseases such as:
cardiovascular diseases (mainly heart disease and stroke), which were the leading cause of death in 2008
diabetes musculoskeletal disorders (especially osteoarthritis – a highly disabling degenerative disease of the joints) some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon). The risk for these noncommunicable diseases increases, with the increase in BMI.

You can do something about it by making some key lifestyle changes revolving around your current activity levels and diet plan.
